Products Description
PGA(CAS 26124-68-5)is a type of linear polyester polymer with the lowest carbon number, a completely degradable ester structure, and the fastest degradation rate. It is a fatty acid-based polymer with excellent biocompatibility, biodegradability, and mechanical strength.
PGA has a regular molecular structure and tightly packed chain segments, making it a highly crystalline thermoplastic polymer. Its crystallinity is typically around 55%. The melting point (Tm) of PGA is very high, ranging from 220 to 230 °C, which is approximately 50 °C higher than PLA and P3HB [6]. The glass transition temperature of PGA is close to room temperature, ranging from 35 to 40 °C [7]. The crystallization temperature (Tc) of PGA is approximately 150 to 190 °C.

FAQ
Q1:What is the degradation difference among PGA, PDO and PLA?
Re: PGA degrades fastest and absorbs within 2–3 months; PDO degrades in 6–8 months; PLA has the slowest degradation of 12–24 months.
Q2:What are the applications of low and high IV PGA?
Re:Low IV grade is for drug microspheres and carriers; high IV grade is for spinning sutures and injection-molded bone implants requiring good mechanical strength.
Q3:Could moisture-exposed PGA still be used for implant-grade products?
Re: No. It hydrolyzes rapidly upon moisture contact, leading to molecular weight and strength loss. Implant-grade PGA requires moisture-proof frozen storage.
Q4: What are the degradation products of PGA and is it safe?
Re: It degrades into glycolic acid, which can be metabolized and excreted by human body, complying with biocompatibility requirements for medical implants.
