Products Description
Petroleum resin is a low-molecular-weight polymer obtained through cationic polymerization using the by-products C5 and C9 distillates from the ethylene plant. Its softening point generally ranges from 80 to 140℃, and its relative density is 0.970 to 0.975. The relative molecular mass is less than 2000.
Petroleum resin is a heavy hydrocarbon polymer produced as a by-product in petrochemical processing. Depending on the source of raw materials and the polymerization method, it is classified into the following four types: ① C5 petroleum resin (aliphatic hydrocarbon resin); ② C5/C9 petroleum resin (aliphatic - aromatic hydrocarbon resin); ③ C9 petroleum resin (aromatic hydrocarbon resin); ④ DCPD petroleum resin (dicyclopentadiene resin).

FAQ
Q: Any difference in softening point and compatibility?
A: C5 has better compatibility with polyolefin and SBS. C9 works better with aromatic resins, asphalt and coating systems. Both can be produced in various softening point grades.
Q: What is its storage condition?
A: Store in dry warehouse at room temperature, away from open flame and high temperature.
Q: Is petroleum resin soluble in water?
A: Insoluble in water, soluble in organic solvents like toluene, xylene and ethyl acetate.
Q: Which resin should be selected for high temperature resistant adhesives?
A: DCPD resin is recommended. It adopts double-ring structure with few unsaturated bonds and excellent thermal stability to meet high-temperature working conditions.
Q: Among these four petroleum resins, which one has the best thermal stability?
A: DCPD resin. It has double-ring structure and few unsaturated bonds, hardly discolors under high temperature processing, featuring the best thermal stability among the four types.
