Products Description

PEI is a non-crystalline thermoplastic special engineering plastic. Its molecular main chain contains both rigid imide rings and flexible ether bonds. It is one of the few high-performance polymers that simultaneously possess ultra-high heat resistance, stable dielectric properties, and good processability.
The typical appearance of PEI is a transparent resin with a golden color. After being modified with glass fibers or carbon fibers, it becomes opaque. The Tg (glass transition temperature) is as high as 217℃, and the long-term continuous use temperature can reach 170℃. It can withstand short-term temperatures of 200℃ and easily withstand the 260℃ thermal shock of PCB lead-free reflow soldering.

FAQ

Q: How to store PEI?

A: Keep sealed in cool, dry and ventilated warehouse, avoid moisture, light and heat sources. Prevent long-term exposure to humid air.

Q: Could PEI be sterilized and used for medical applications?

A: Yes. It can withstand repeated autoclaving, EO and gamma sterilization. Compliant grades have biocompatibility and are widely used in medical devices.

Q: Is PEI flame retardant inherently? Do we need extra flame retardant?

A: PEI is inherently flame retardant, reaches UL94 V-0 without extra flame retardant, low smoke and low toxicity, ideal for aircraft interior.

Q: Why must PEI pellets be dried before processing?

A: PEI absorbs moisture from air. Moisture will cause silver streaks, bubbles and voids during high-temperature injection or extrusion. It is recommended to dry at about 150℃ for over 4 hours before processing.

Q: How about the chemical resistance of PEI? What solvents attack it?

A: It resists alcohols, hydrocarbons, weak acids, weak alkalis and oils. It is not resistant to halogenated hydrocarbons and some strong polar solvents, avoid long-term contact with dichloromethane and similar solvents.
